What Is The SPP ?
The Security and Prosperity Partnership is an informal agreement among the three countries of North America (the United States, Canada andMexico) to work in close cooperation to:
- Create an integrated, secure perimeter around North America
- Ensure an uninterrupted flow of cheap goods within North America To accomplish these goals, government and business leaders say they are working together to exempt goods and business people from red tape and border delays.
Meanwhile, the rest of us face increased surveillance, restrictions on travel, racial profiling and invasive security checks. Is this a democratic model? Most people havent heard much about the SPP, and thats no mistake. In fact, the architects of the SPP dont want Parliament or Congress involved.
Why the big secret?
Because they dont want democratic debate getting in the way of their plans, so theyve found ways to avoid both Parliament and Congress as well as mainstream media. Their sneaky strategy: harmonize regulations and further deeper integration.
The people behind the SPP are making big changes. But instead of changing laws, they are changing regulations. How? By harmonizing Canadian & Mexican trade, commerce and security regulations with those of the United States - thats how they have managed to get around the political process.
Why is this a problem?
Because in most cases it means Canada & Mexico will now be doing things the U.S. way, whether thats good for us all or not. In most cases it will mean tougher, stricter regulations for ordinary people and looser, weaker regulations for business, designed by and for themselves.
The result? Higher profits for companies at the expense of peoples rights and protections!
