Decaying vegetation in the mud of Geronimo Creek releases various gases, among them probably methane and carbon dioxide. Here a long pole has been pushed into the bottom a few times to disturb the mud and release bubbles of gas. The bubbles can be as large as a volleyball and can rock a small boat.
